El Instituto de Israel para Investigación Biotecnológica informó que probó con éxito para el tratamiento de la COVID-19, dos medicamentos utilizados para combatir la enfermedad de Gaucher.
«El tratamiento de una nueva enfermedad como la COVID-19 utilizando una droga ya existente y aprobada puede ser una solución eficiente a corto plazo», explicó el instituto.
Además, el estudio demostró que el tratamiento antiviral causó una importante reducción en la capacidad de replicarse del coronavirus y la destrucción de células infectadas.
Estas medicinas son utilizadas para la enfermedad de Gaucher, una enfermedad rara y genética causada por la deficiencia de una enzima que se manifiesta de distintas maneras.
El instituto explicó que los dos puestos están siendo aplicados actualmente a animales infectados con la enfermedad, para medir la efectividad de su tratamiento.
Israel cuenta con 281 fallecidos y menos de 17.000 infectados.

Furthermore, the study showed that antiviral treatment caused a significant reduction in the coronavirus's ability to replicate and the destruction of infected cells.
These medicines are used for Gaucher disease, a rare and genetic disease caused by deficiency of an enzyme that manifests itself in different ways.
The institute explained that the two positions are currently being applied to animals infected with the disease, to measure the effectiveness of their treatment.
Israel has 281 deaths and less than 17,000 infected.
